Karasu v1.0.0
Karasu turns you into a crow. Walk, sprint, sneak and fly, and the crowd that scatters when you teleport arrives as crows instead of a puff of particles. This is the first public release, and it works on Paper, Spigot, Purpur, Folia and Bukkit.
Added
BetterModel support
- New model engine, preferred automatically when BetterModel is installed. BetterModel targets Minecraft 26.3, where ModelEngine does not yet, so on a current server this is the engine you get.
- Two authored crow models ship with the release, a perched crow and a flying one, as a separate
Karasu-models-<version>.zipto unpack intoplugins/BetterModel/models/. They are not bundled in the jar, because BetterModel loads models from its own directory rather than from the plugin jar.
Bat mode
- New
model-engine: vanillaoption, for servers that run no model plugin at all. The crow is drawn as a bat, so Karasu still shows something instead of an invisible player. - With LibsDisguises installed, it disguises you as a bat properly, client-side, so the game keeps treating you as a player: damage, targeting and the tab list all behave.
- Without LibsDisguises, it spawns a real bat and hides you. This is cosmetic and slightly worse, because the bat is its own entity and can be attacked separately from you, so Karasu logs a warning naming LibsDisguises at startup.
Self view
self-viewlets you see your own crow in third person, with your real body hidden so only the crow shows.- Optional hiding of your own held items and armor while morphed, so they do not float around the crow. Needs packetevents; the items themselves are untouched.
- Optional hiding of the self body for other players, off by default.
Changed
autonow prefers BetterModel and falls back to ModelEngine, instead of the reverse. On 26.2 with only ModelEngine installed, behaviour is unchanged.- Self view uses BetterModel's own viewer control, so a model that never animates is now spawned in the right scale for you. Previously a unanimated model could send its transform only on first spawn, leaving you looking at a differently sized crow.
- Crow rotation uses a continuous yaw with the model's rotation locked, so a crow no longer snaps to face the wrong way after a turn.
Fixed
- Removed the last hard Paper-only calls, so the jar loads on Spigot. The departure mannequin's player skin and the client's skin-layer preference are both resolved at runtime now. The skin call was resolving its conversion helper by a hardcoded parameter type, which never matched because the Bukkit and Paper profile classes are unrelated, so the mannequin silently kept its default skin even on Paper.
- Teleport arrivals no longer leave a half-finished swarm behind when the destination chunk is not loaded.
- Sneak is no longer disabled while morphed unless you ask for it, since players use it constantly for descending.
Support
| Minimum | Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| Full effect | 1.21.9 | Departure mannequin, BetterModel 3.5.0 |
| Reduced effect | 1.21.4 | BetterModel only, no mannequin beat |
| Bat mode | 1.21.4+ | Needs neither model engine |
The departure mannequin is a 1.21.9 entity. Below that, the crows burst immediately instead of pausing for a quarter second first, and everything else is unchanged.
Dependencies
All optional. Karasu loads and runs without any of them.
- BetterModel, for the authored crow models.
- ModelEngine, as the older engine fallback.
- LibsDisguises, for a proper bat disguise in bat mode.
- packetevents, for hiding your own items and armor from yourself.
