Server-wide crafting challenge with persistent shuffled recipes, protected starter recipes, and an action-bar stopwatch.

Report RandomCrafting?

RandomCrafting

RandomCrafting is a server-wide survival challenge that shuffles crafting outputs into a fixed, shared mapping. Discover what familiar recipes now produce and work towards defeating the Ender Dragon while an action-bar stopwatch tracks your progress.

Features

  • Consistent crafting results: Each recipe keeps its shuffled output until an administrator reshuffles it.
  • One-to-one mapping: Every eligible output material maps to a different eligible material, without duplicate destinations. Recipes sharing the same original output share the same shuffled result.
  • One item per craft: Shuffled recipes produce exactly one item per completed craft, regardless of their original output quantity.
  • Protected starter recipes: All plank outputs and crafting tables remain vanilla, including their normal quantities.
  • Global multiplayer challenge: All players share the same mapping and timer. Players joining during a run participate automatically.
  • Separate start and shuffle controls: Begin timing the challenge before changing any recipes.
  • Repeatable reshuffling: Generate another mapping during an active run without resetting the stopwatch.
  • Persistent progress: The original start time and exact mapping survive server restarts.
  • Automatic completion: Any Ender Dragon death during an active challenge ends the run and announces the final time.
  • Standard crafting support: Includes eligible shaped and shapeless recipes in player inventory grids and crafting tables, with normal clicking and shift-click crafting.

Requirements and Installation

  • Paper 26.2
  • Java 25
  • No additional plugins required
  1. Stop your server.
  2. Place randomcrafting-1.0.0.jar in the server’s plugins folder.
  3. Start the server and run /rc help.

Use a full server restart when installing or updating the plugin.

Getting Started

  1. Run /rc start to begin a new challenge. The stopwatch starts, but crafting remains vanilla.
  2. Run /rc shuffle when you want crafting outputs to change.
  3. Craft normally to discover the new results. Repeating a recipe gives the same output for everyone.
  4. Run /rc shuffle again whenever you want a new overall mapping. The timer continues uninterrupted.
  5. Defeat the Ender Dragon to complete the challenge, or use /rc stop to end it manually.

Stopping or completing the challenge clears the mapping and action bar and restores vanilla crafting. Another run can then begin with /rc start.

Commands

Both /rc and /randomcrafting are supported.

Command Description
/rc start Starts a new challenge with vanilla crafting and an active stopwatch.
/rc shuffle Shuffles eligible crafting outputs during an active challenge.
/rc stop Ends the challenge and restores vanilla crafting.
/rc help Displays the command list.

Starting an already active challenge does not reset its timer or mapping. Commands also work from the server console; omit the leading /. Tab completion only suggests commands the sender can use.

Stopwatch and Saved Progress

The stopwatch displays elapsed time as HH:MM:SS in every online player’s action bar. It updates approximately once per second without sending repeated chat messages.

Progress is stored automatically in plugins/RandomCrafting/data.yml. Restarting restores the exact mapping and original start time, including server downtime. A challenge restarted before its first shuffle remains vanilla.

No configuration is required. Do not edit data.yml while the server is running. Invalid saved data is rejected rather than partially activated.

Recipe Scope and Compatibility

Only eligible fixed-output player crafting recipes are shuffled. The destination pool contains those eligible craftable materials; it does not include every item in Minecraft.

The following remain unchanged:

  • Planks and crafting tables.
  • Special or data-dependent crafting, including applicable fireworks, map/book copying, banner operations and data-preserving recipes.
  • Recipes registered under custom namespaces and results containing custom item data.
  • Smelting, blasting, smoking, campfire cooking, stonecutting, smithing, brewing and trading.
  • Mob drops and loot.
  • Automated Crafter blocks, which remain a way to obtain vanilla crafting outputs during an active challenge.

The recipe book continues to display the original recipe entries; the prepared crafting result shows the shuffled output. Creative middle-click cloning is disabled for shuffled result slots.

A reshuffle changes the overall mapping, although individual recipes may occasionally retain their previous destination. Restart after changing recipe-providing plugins or datapacks. Other plugins that modify crafting results or action-bar messages may require compatibility testing.
