A lightweight 26.2 plugin that lets admins view and edit players' inventory and echest.

Report VaultLens?

VaultLens

View and edit player inventories and ender chests—even when the player is offline.

VaultLens gives server owners and trusted staff a simple inventory menu for inspecting, moving, giving and removing items. Open a player’s inventory or ender chest with one command, then manage its contents using familiar inventory controls.

Built for Paper 26.2 with Java 25. No additional plugins or client mods are required.

Features

  • Online and offline access: inspect and edit players’ inventories and ender chests.
  • Inventory and equipment slots: view storage, hotbar, armour, off-hand and extended equipment slots.
  • Familiar controls: move items, split stacks, shift-click, drag, swap hotbar slots and double-click to collect matching items.
  • Live online views: contents refresh automatically as the player moves items.
  • Permission-controlled editing: grant full editing access or read-only inspection.
  • Automatic offline backups: the original player save is backed up before the first change in each editing session.
  • Name and UUID lookup: access players using their saved name or complete UUID.
  • Console logging: optionally record inspections and edits.

Installation

  1. Stop your Paper 26.2 server.
  2. Place in the server’s plugins folder.
  3. Start the server using Java 25.
  4. Join as an operator and run /vl inv PlayerName.

When updating, remove the previous VaultLens JAR before installing the new one. Keep the existing plugins/VaultLens folder and restart the server.

Commands

Command Description
/vl inv <player> Open the player’s inventory and equipment.
/vl ender <player> Open the player’s ender chest.
/vl help Show command help.
/vl reload Reload VaultLens’s configuration.

Replace <player> with an exact player name or complete UUID. Name matching is case-insensitive.

/vaultlens is the full command. You can also use inventory instead of inv, or enderchest and ec instead of ender.

Inventory commands must be used in-game. Configuration reload also works from the console. Tab completion provides available commands and player suggestions.

Using the inventory editor

Run:

/vl inv PlayerName

The first three rows show the target’s main inventory. The fourth row shows their hotbar, and the fifth contains equipment slots and player information. The bottom row contains controls for switching views, refreshing and closing.

For an ender chest, use:

/vl ender PlayerName

This opens all 27 ender chest slots, with controls underneath.

With editing permission, you can move items between the target’s slots and your own inventory. Changes apply immediately—there is no Save button. Online changes update the player’s actual inventory; offline changes are written to their saved player data.

The status icon shows EDITING or READ ONLY. Without editing permission, both the displayed inventory and your own inventory are locked while the menu is open.

Menu buttons and empty equipment placeholders cannot be taken. Dropping items with Q, dropping outside the menu and creative cloning are disabled inside the editor. To drop an item, transfer it to your inventory and close the menu first.

Permissions

All permissions default to operators only. You can grant individual permissions through a permissions plugin.

Permission Access
vaultlens.inventory View player inventories.
vaultlens.enderchest View player ender chests.
vaultlens.offline Access offline players alongside the relevant viewing permission.
vaultlens.edit.inventory Edit inventories alongside inventory viewing permission.
vaultlens.edit.enderchest Edit ender chests alongside ender chest viewing permission.
vaultlens.reload Reload the configuration.
vaultlens.admin Grant all VaultLens permissions.

For example, with LuckPerms installed:

/lp user StaffName permission set vaultlens.admin true

For read-only inventory inspection, including offline players:

/lp user StaffName permission set vaultlens.inventory true
/lp user StaffName permission set vaultlens.offline true

LuckPerms is optional. Operators can use VaultLens immediately.

Offline access and backups

Offline players must already have a saved player file on this server. VaultLens can read existing saves from before the plugin was installed.

  • Close the editor when finished: while an offline editing menu is open, the target cannot join. They receive a message asking them to try again shortly. Read-only inspection does not block login.
  • One editor per player: only one staff member can edit a target at a time, across both inventory types. Other viewers receive read-only access.
  • Automatic backups: before the first change in each editing session, the original player file is backed up under plugins/VaultLens/backups/<uuid>/. Backups remain until you remove them.
  • Conflicting saves: if the player file changes outside the editor, or saving fails, the move is rejected before changing the editor’s items.
  • Older saves: a player whose save uses an older Minecraft data version must join this server version once before offline editing becomes available.

If an offline name cannot be found, use the name last recorded on this server or the player’s complete UUID. Saved-name indexing may take a little time after startup.

Configuration

Settings are stored in plugins/VaultLens/config.yml:

refresh-ticks: 10
log-inspections: true
max-player-data-mib: 32
  • refresh-ticks — online refresh interval. The default is approximately half a second at 20 TPS.
  • log-inspections — log successful inspections and applied target edits to the console.
  • max-player-data-mib — limit the size and NBT memory allowance for offline player-data reads.

Use /vl reload after changing these settings.

Compatibility and notes

  • This release targets Paper 26.2 and Java 25. Folia, Spigot and other Minecraft versions are not supported.
  • VaultLens manages standard player inventories and ender chests. Separate inventory databases or private inventories maintained by other plugins are not integrated.
  • Item metadata is preserved, including names, lore, enchantments and stored container contents. Nested shulker and bundle contents do not have a separate editing menu.
  • The target’s cursor item and temporary crafting grid are not displayed.
  • Your own inventory opens read-only; your own ender chest can be edited.
  • If the target logs in or out, reopen the view to access their current state.
