A lightweight Paper plugin for changing the speed of minecarts, boats, and horses with simple commands.

VehicleSpeed gives players an easy way to customise the speed of common Minecraft transportation without adding complicated systems, GUIs, or unnecessary dependencies.

Set a vehicle's speed while riding it, restore it with a simple reset command, and configure the allowed speed ranges for your server.

Commands

/vehiclespeed

Displays the VehicleSpeed command list.

Alias:

/vspeed

/minecartspeed <speed|reset>

Changes the maximum speed of the minecart you are currently riding.

Example:

/minecartspeed 1.5

Reset:

/minecartspeed reset

VehicleSpeed remembers the minecart's original maximum speed before changing it, allowing reset to restore its previous value.

/boatspeed <speed|reset>

Changes the speed of the boat you are currently riding.

Example:

/boatspeed 2

Reset:

/boatspeed reset

VehicleSpeed uses its own movement system for modified boats, including smooth acceleration toward the selected speed. Resetting the boat removes VehicleSpeed's custom movement setting and returns it to normal Minecraft behaviour.

/horsespeed <speed|reset>

Changes the movement speed of the horse you are currently riding.

Example:

/horsespeed 0.6

Reset:

/horsespeed reset

Each horse's original movement speed is saved before it is modified, so resetting restores that specific horse's previous speed rather than applying a generic value.

Permissions

vehiclespeed.help
Allows use of /vehiclespeed and /vspeed.

vehiclespeed.minecart
Allows use of /minecartspeed.

vehiclespeed.boat
Allows use of /boatspeed.

vehiclespeed.horse
Allows use of /horsespeed.

All permissions are enabled for normal players by default.

Server owners can override them using their preferred permissions plugin.

Configuration

VehicleSpeed automatically generates a config.yml containing the allowed speed ranges:

minecart:
  minimum-speed: 0.1
  maximum-speed: 5.0

boat:
  minimum-speed: 0.1
  maximum-speed: 5.0
  acceleration: 0.03

horse:
  minimum-speed: 0.05
  maximum-speed: 1.0

Minecart settings

minimum-speed controls the lowest value players can select.

maximum-speed controls the highest value players can select.

Boat settings

minimum-speed and maximum-speed control the allowed boat speed range.

acceleration controls how quickly modified boats accelerate toward their selected speed.

Horse settings

minimum-speed and maximum-speed control the allowed horse movement-speed values.

Restart the server after changing the configuration.

Installation

1. Download the VehicleSpeed .jar.
2. Place it inside your server's plugins folder.
3. Restart the server.
4. VehicleSpeed will automatically generate its configuration file.
5. Use /vehiclespeed in-game to view the available commands.

Why VehicleSpeed?

There are no menus to navigate, no complicated vehicle framework, and no large dependency chain. Get into a vehicle, run a command, and go faster.
