Avatar for Vystorm

See the destination through portals: client-only views for Nether, End and your own linked portals. Instant travel.

Report VystormPortals?

Requires Vystorm Core (free) – the shared base of all Vystorm plugins (English/German language files, in-game config editor, update check). Just drop one extra jar into plugins/, no setup.

VystormPortals banner

Look through a portal and see where it leads. VystormPortals shows each player the blocks behind a portal as a private, client-only view of the destination. It works with your own linked portals and automatically with normal Nether and End portals, with no create or link commands needed for those.

See before you step

Portal views

  • See the other side. A perspective block view of the destination, up to 16 blocks deep, framed by a client-only black rim. Only the viewer sees it; no world blocks are changed.
  • Destination biome colours. Grass, foliage and water in the view use the destination's biome colours, and the view composes with Winter Is Coming's snowy view.
  • Smooth, bounded updates. Views refresh every server tick with at most 512 block changes per viewer; the aperture and newly visible sides get priority. Closing a view restores it immediately.

Step through, travel instantly

Your own linked portals

  • Create and link. /vportal create places a portal (2 to 8 blocks wide and high) at your position; /vportal link connects two of your portals in both directions. /vportal unlink separates them again without deleting either.
  • Instant travel. Walk through and you arrive at the linked portal right away, keeping your momentum and rotated like the portal. Set instant-travel: false to use per-portal warmups instead.
  • Things travel too. Dropped items, XP orbs, primed TNT, falling blocks, arrows, snowballs, tridents, ender pearls, mobs and empty minecarts and boats that pass through a public portal (both ends public) come out of the linked one with their momentum. Throw loot through, shoot through, let mobs follow you. Each group can be switched off; at most 16 entities travel per tick. The ender dragon, the wither and entities with riders never travel.
  • Access and info. Public or private per portal, owners edit their own portals, /vportal info shows world, position, size, access, warmup, target and owner.

Automatic Nether and End portals

Automatic Nether and End portals

  • Nether portals. Light a normal obsidian portal and, once its counterpart is prepared, it shows the other side. The purple portal block is hidden only for the viewer; real blocks and vanilla teleportation stay in place. Existing portals are recognized when you approach them.
  • Counterpart preparation. The counterpart portal is prepared early through Paper's native portal search and placement, respecting Paper's search radius, dimension scaling, world border and the cancellable PortalCreateEvent. With instant travel on, Nether portals also skip the vanilla wait time.
  • End portals. Existing End portal surfaces show the vanilla End arrival area, or your personal return area on the way back. End credits, return teleport and the dragon fountain stay vanilla.

Honest limits

  • This is a server-side block projection, not a full client renderer like a portal mod. Entities, destination lighting, dimension sky and tile-entity contents (chest contents, for example) are not shown in the view.
  • Vanilla biomes use four-block cells and client biome blending, so tint at the aperture is not pixel-perfect.
  • Preparing a counterpart can generate chunks and a counterpart portal as soon as a portal is lit.
  • End gateways and Folia are not supported.
